Communion wafers made from shredded and pulped handwritten letters written to me by my mother over a period of twenty years. These letters held her sadness, anger, and disappointment in her own story, projected at me.
In addition, my unsent responses to the letters, giving voice to the words I was afraid to say. Mother’s communion dress decorating a Valentine’s candy heart box, and hand stitched paper buttons also made from the letters.
